There are three phases involved in the Sunnyland Pictures commercial / video production process. Providing this structure also allows our clients to have input and make informed decisions along the way.
This is probably the most important and the easiest. Pre-production includes everything we do before we ever pick up a camera.
First, we must think about what your finished video should say. We will ask you these questions during our pre-production meeting
The answers to these questions will determine most everything else. Next, we will plan what we will actually go and capture on our day(s) of shooting. Do we need to interview experts? Do we need footage of specific things that represent your company or non-profit? Where and how will we capture these things? We will also brainstorm content ideas with you to make sure we capture everything we need to properly convey your message. Nothing needs to be carved in stone at this point, but a working guideline will help us streamline the actual production process. All of this pre-planning will help you feel more prepared for the shoot, and will help us make sure we are conveying your message correctly.
“Remember it’s video – so we can have as many takes as needed to get it right.”
Finally, we will schedule your shoot. This is primarily dependent upon your own schedule as well as that of our crew.
This is where the fun begins. Production is simply the process of taking everything we have planned in pre-production, and making sure we capture it on the day of the shoot. Our crew will meet you at a designated time and place to begin filming your professional web commercial. Depending on the package you choose, we will shoot in one location or many locations over a period of 1 to 3 days. Also, depending on the size of your shoot, there may be some down time for you and those you have asked to participate while we set up new and interesting shots. We want you to be comfortable at all times so feel free to bring any items you may want with you on set, keeping in mind cell phones must be turned off or silenced during filming.
Reading materials, comfortable shoes, a camping chair, headphones, etc. are some of the items you might find beneficial. In order to keep our costs low we do not provide food or beverages so you may want to pack a snack or meal or be prepared to order from a local restaurant. Remember, this is YOUR commercial. So at any time if an idea hits you that we did not think of in pre-production, we encourage you to speak up! We will be taking lots of notes along the way to make sure we know what is important to you and will address these items in post production.
In post production, we take all of the footage we captured and add all the bells and whistles including but not limited to graphics, music, sound effects, animated logos, etc.
“Mostly, post-production means video editing.”
Using our notes from pre-production and the day of the shoot, we will begin the editing process. We may contact you during this phase to discuss particular segments if questions arise. Once we have what is called a ‘Director’s cut’, or a rough draft, we will schedule a notes session with you to make sure we have captured your vision correctly. The number of notes sessions we have will depend on the package you choose. We will fine-tune your commercial based on our final notes session and provide you with the package deliverables we agreed upon during pre-production. This will complete the final phase of the commercial production process.
